A TRIBUTE TO A SWEET MEMORY
Firstly, this blog is close to my heart.
Sikwate.Org is named thus after the sweetest memory of my Lola. I used to wake up to the bittersweet scent of tableya whisked to a froth to warm our little tummies. In my young mind, these precious mornings and those little cups of sikwate became synonymous with my grandmother. Even now, I cannot smell and taste a good cup of hot chocolate without remembering my mild-mannered Lola and her kind eyes and graying hair tied in a loose ponytail.
Lola was the typical grandmother — doting, kind and nannying. She was one of the first people to show me how sweet life can be and the best thing I can do to show my gratitude is by naming this blog after my sweetest memory of her.
A TRAVEL BLOG WITH A TALL TALE TO TELL
Sikwate is an ambitious attempt at finding meaning in things. As we grow older, we realize there is more to living than simply being an incessant exercise of breathing. Living means existing. Living means experiencing life at its fullest.
We also attempt to put into words the spirit of the age — or Zeitgeist, if you will. We will try to look into the known elements of happiness and see if these still maintain relevance in our shrinking world. Technology has re-defined the world and with it are new sets of realities which, in turn, breed new sets of thinking. So, we travel.
Traveling is a great teacher. It shows us horizons we never thought to exist. It makes us see realities we never thought to be true. It tells us stories we only thought to reside in the dark recesses of the mind. We categorize the blog into five to make it easier for the mind to recall. We are glad to have you on board. See you around.
People and Culture.
What makes every adventure more interesting is the people you get the chance to know. Despite our seeming differences in color, language, among others, there is always a thing or two we share.Life and Living.
I am obsessed with life and living. I mean, the older I get and the more I love life. Life is complicated. Life is about family, happiness, money, and everything else but, at the same time, we also know life is more than all these. There is always something bigger about life — even bigger than what we think life is.Mountains and the Outdoors.
Oh, I love the camping in the mountains. It makes me realize how small I am in this so wide a world.Beaches and Seas.
I grew up in a small coastal village and I began to love the sea at an early age. It was on our village’s white sandy shore where I wrote my first story.Food and Appetite.
I am a foodie. I think eating is an adventure. Food also tells you more about culture, history and life of people. I love home-cooked meals but I do go out and scavenge the town for street food and exotic delicacies when I get the time.

I see that there is nothing yet under ‘Prose and Poetry’. What about some haiku photography? (see http://elementaryposters.com and click on the relevant page on top)

What an interesting page this is! It didn’t take me long to work out you’re from The Philippines. We’ve been there once when we travelled to Manila to bring our adopted son home. Such an interesting experience – and such a colourful country of many contrasts.
